The last shuttle launch, Atlantis, 2011. I was not able to see the launch from this vantage point, but Stephen Clark of Spaceflight Now was. And, I must say, it is nice to have friends (and family) in high places--otherwise I would not have these incredible photos of the launch. I was in a Wendy's parking lot far, far away watching in awe. Words cannot describe the experience of watching the shuttle launch, not to mention, the last shuttle to launch. All I can say, is I was a proud American on that day...

Hi there! I only heard it on the radio today (I'm sitting over here in Hamburg/Germany)that this was to be the last shuttle launch EVER - feels strange, somehow. Well, times are changing. Different forms of "future" seem to be arising... The photos are great, you're really lucky about using them!

Hi Franziska-
ReplyDeleteGlad you like the photos. The photographer is my cousin--he writes for spaceflight now magazine (on-line), and is a very talented writer/photographer. I will miss our beloved shuttle program for sure.
Thanks for checking in.
